  5. This distribution contains two files representing the SHELF project that
  6. must be gunzipped and untarred (see the Getting Started section of the FAQ
  7. at www.applixware.org).  shelf_2.0.tar.gz and shelf_2.0_bin.tar.gz contain
  8. the source code and executables, respectively, that constitute SHELF.
  9.  
  10. The executables were built on a RedHat 5.2-based system with the egcs 1.1.2
  11. compiler and binutils 2.9.1.0.15, and should run on all glibc2 and glibc
  12. 2.1 based Linux/x86 systems.  Further documentation on building SHELF from
  13. source can be found in the src/docs directory after unpacking
  14. shelf_2.0.tar.gz.

  16. SHELF is an open-source scripting language and tools initiative from
  17. Applix, Inc.  SHELF is an outgrowth of the powerful and popular ELF
  18. programming language that many thousands of programmers have used to create
  19. rich, visual applications. ELF has been an embedded part of our Applixware
  20. Office suite, and now this language and some powerful development tools
  21. have been decoupled from Applixware into an Open Source, standalone
  22. environment.
